We are delighted to announce that Lamine Sonko has been appointed as an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne in recognition of his contribution and commitment to delivering intercultural and intergenerational knowledge through the interdisciplinary fields of his artistic practice.

A strength of the film and Sonko’s ongoing work is his attention to sharing cultural knowledge alongside exceptionally skilled performances of music and dance. This gives audiences a deeper appreciation of music and dance practices through understanding of their meanings and social importance in Senegalese communities.

ACMI spoke to the acclaimed composer, artistic director and multi-instrumentalist about sharing cultural knowledge and understanding the essence of music.

Director Lamine Sonko and his multi-artform theatre piece ‘Guewel’ has been selected to participate in Arts House’ CultureLAB arts development program in 2022. CultureLAB is an arts development program that supports independent artists and small-medium companies, with a focus on the potential of performance and artists with an experimental practice.
